1.2 Product Description
The MTL8318 analog transmitter can transmit multiple hazardous areas through the data highway to the safety of the input signal consists of a twisted pair of wire. It is inherently safe and can therefore be installed in Zone 0 danger zones or class partitions

The MTL831B can monitor up to 16 input sources from THC or millivolts or up to 15 inputs from 2,3 or 4-wire RTDS. Providing two (i.e., dual redundant) data highway outputs, signals and power can be transmitted over distances of up to 3 km, depending on the application, power and (noise) environment – see section 4.4. Highway cables can be simple twisted pair or twisted pair IS a wire inside a multi-core cable.
At the other end of the data highway, the MTIL838B-MBF receiver is used to translate information sent from the MTL831B. The MTL838B-MBF provides input and status information represented by ModbusR serial data output. When the MTL831B transmitter is installed in a hazardous area, each data highway must be installed in a safe area protected by the MTL3052 digital isolator.
2 Starting the Installation
The MTL831B multiplex transmitter is divided into three main themes.
Mechanical Installation – How to install the MTL831B and how to fit it into our house.
◆ Electrical connection – sensor and highway connection. If the unit is installed in our housing, it details any special wiring arrangements. ◆ Configuration – The selection of address and input mode is set by the internal switch.
Note: New users may find it helpful to set up a simple version of the system in an indoor test area to gain familiarity before performing a field installation.
3 Machine L device installation 3.1 position
The MTL831B can be installed in safe or hazardous areas (including Zone 0 or Zone 1), depending on the application. 3.2 Installation Options
The device can be mounted on a T-DIN rail or flat surface. Eaton has a range of housings -ENC8,ENCB-ss,ENC3 or ENCB3-SS – that provide appropriate IP67 protection if the transmitter is located in an exposed area
3.2.1 Install on the T-DIN rail (FIG.1) The central mounting clip on the opposite side of the hook to the standard 35mm DIN46277 T-rail and push down until the unit snaps into place. To remove, loosen the center clip under the base of the device outwards (with a screwdriver) to loosen the clip on the other side.
3.2.2 Flat Installation (Figure 2, Figure 3) Turn the machine upside down.
Use a screwdriver to force the fixing arm of one of the base clips counterclockwise to release it from the groove. Keep your arm in this position and slide the clip outward. Release the fixing arm to engage the tooth to the base mold. Adjust the position of the other two clips in a similar manner. Install on any flat surface using three M4 bolts or screws (or other suitable fasteners with a handle diameter of 4mm or less) threaded through the three screws according to the mounting center as shown in Figure 3.
3.2.3 In ENC8, ENC8-SS, ENC83 or ENC83-SS enclosures (Figure 4)
Remove the upper and/or lower undrilled pressure plates and drill holes to provide suitable holes for the required inlet valves. Configuration information is listed in the table of possible holes. Install the machine on the internal T-guide rail of the chassis as described in (1).
Mount the housing on any flat surface using four MB bolts (or other applicable fasteners with a handle diameter of 8mm or less) through the four fixing lugs according to the mounting center as shown in Figure 4.
